Wound Care Specialty Nursing Program Wound Specailty- October 27, 2008 to November 7, 2008 Location: Worcester, MA
A Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Society ( WOCN) fully accredited Wound Care Specialty Course which encompasses the nursing management of complex wounds, fistulas and tube management. The program provides 80 hours of classroom instruction which focuses on Wound Care Theory and a Role Implementation Independent learning module. Upon completion of the on-site course theory and the independent learning module, the student is required to complete a 60 hour clinical practicum with an appropriately credentialed preceptor. Upon fulfillment of the clinical requirement, the student graduates as a Wound Care Nurse and becomes eligible to take the National Board Certification Examination. Upon passing the exam, the graduate is credentialed as a Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) FacultyFaculty includes health care professional; Wound, Ostomy and Continence (ET) Nurse educators; and clinicians from a wide geographical area. Program LocationThe Wound Care Specialty Program for 2008 will be held in our home office at: 5012 Lenker Street, Maple Bldg. Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Living ArrangementsWEA has reserved a block of rooms at a special rate for prospective students. We highly recommend utilizing these facilities. Preceptor InformationClinical preceptor must meet the WOCN accreditation criteria for clinical faculty. The staff at WEA is available to assist the students in selecting a preceptor. A contract must be signed by the preceptor's employer and WEA, Inc. Ample time should be allowed for contract preparation and negotiation. Students must generally pay a fee for the clinical preceptorship. The cost is negotiated between the student and the preceptor and is the student's responsibility. ( 3rd Ed.), Acute & Chronic Wounds: Current Management. Concepts, St. Louis, Missouri: Mosby, Inc. ( ISBN: 0-323-03074-2) This textbook may be purchased either new or used at a cost of between $55-$65. Tuition FeesTuition for the course theory is $3,000. There is a $75 application fee which is to be remitted when making application to the program. Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
