What Is WOCN Split Option
WOCN Application

The split-course option includes two components:

  • Theoretical Component -- 160 hours on-site (four weeks, Monday through Friday, 8:30

a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) The theoretical component of the split course option provides the participant with a dynamic interactive learning experience.

  • Clinical Component -- 160 hours of off-site clinical instruction*.

The clinical instruction may be provided by an approved clinical preceptor in the student's

geographical area, or with a clinical preceptor in the region where the class is held. Students

must complete and fulfill the clinical component of the course within twelve weeks of completing course theory.

*This meets the minimum criteria established by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses

Society (WOCN) Accreditation Committee.


Dates and Program Location for Onsite Program

The accredited WOC Nursing Education Program is offered several times per year at various

locations.

As new sites are selected for the program, they will be announced in the Journal of WOCN (the

publication of the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society).

Admission Process

The application process for all courses is handled through the administrative offices of Wicks

Education Associates, Inc. (WEA), in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Additional information

Admission Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with a Baccalaureate Degree
  • One year of clinical experience within the past five years

Expenses

The student is responsible for purchasing the following textbooks for On-Site/

Home Study program.

Each textbook may be purchased either new or used at a cost of between $55-$65 per textbook.

$75 Application Fee
$3,900 Tuition*

* The cost of the clinical component is negotiated between the student and the clinical preceptor and is the responsibility of the student.

* Tuition and fees may be adjusted periodically.

Payment Policy

The program tuition is due by the first day of the course. When institutional payment is in process, a letter of intent to pay is required. In extenuating circumstances, payment arrangements must be discussed with the Business Manager. In the event that fees are not paid in full, the student will be unable to take the final examination.

Curriculum and Faculty

The course curriculum follows the WOCN curriculum blueprint. The course is presented in four units of study: Wound Care, Ostomy Management, and Incontinence. Professional Practice is integrated throughout the program.

The faculty for the program includes Lucy J. Wicks, MSN,RN,CWOCN, Program Co-Director and Jane Carmel, MSN, RN, CWOCN, Program Co- Director, as well as healthcare professionals, WOC Nurse educators and clinicians from a wide geographical area.

Accreditation

The WOC Nursing Education Program has been accredited by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN).

Living Arrangements

Wicks Educational Associates, Inc. works with hotels in each geographical location to secure reduced rates for students. Assistance in locating satisfactory living arrangements is provided. A list of hotels and rates will be sent upon request.
